My TBI
My Story
The cause of my brain injury, or my TBI, for short. I am going to try and tell the story based on what I remember. This may or may not be exact but it is how I remember it and all I remember of it.
I am sure there are friends and family that could fill in the blanks but this is my story.
It was late October. A group of us had decided to get away. Take our bikes and head north.
My ex-husband, myself, my mom & dad, and my Godfather and his wife were planning to take Hwy 37 north into Oklahoma and make our way up towards Broken Bow.
I know we lived about 2 hours south of my mom and dad but honestly, I can not remember where we met the group to start our journey and I don't remember any of the ride.
I could say the air was crisp and the sky was clear. It was a wonderful ride but honestly I don't know.
The Wreck...my TBI.
Just north of Broken Bow on Hwy 259 we met a logging truck going around a corner in a mountainous area. The truck and trailer crossed the center line and my ex-husband had to move the bike over to the side of the road.
When doing so, we hit a patch of gravel and the bike went down. When it laid down on its side, the front road peg caught the pavement and slung the bike. Throwing me off.
I went flying. Landing up against a concrete barrier that was placed on the roadside as you rounded the corner.
Not wearing a helmet, my head hitting the concrete. The right side of my brain received the most trauma. I suffered facial fractures and hemorrhaging in several location from the impact.
The wreck happened on October 24, 2008. I was in a coma for a couple days. I was in the ICU for a few days, in the hospital for a few more and them moved to rehab.
Don't remember much after that. I am sure there will be times my memory will be triggered by something and I will update this post.
