Fredericksburg, Texas: A Wind Therapy Trip and a weekend get-away.

Wind therapy trip and weekend get-away to Fredericksburg Texas is always a great experience for us.  This little town founded by German immigrants in the Texas hill-country is not only where my husband and I got married in 2015, has a main street complete with great shopping and food, but is surrounded by wineries and beautiful scenery for some great riding.

Always love getting away on one of these road trips.

The town and surrounding area is full of hotels, motels, bed-n-breakfast, or cabins. You can find accommodations on any of the travel websites. For this trip we would be in the area for an event that would be taking place at the American Legion, so, somewhere close would be a priority. I will cover that event in a future post.

Wine Country Inn-meeting all our requirements for our stay.

We chose the Wine Country Inn for this stay. Just a block down the road from the Legion. Check location off the list. This hotel is very reasonable and comfortable. It was also very clean.

Parking and standard amenities.

They had all the amenities that I know I would be looking for. The Inn’s parking is free and the parking lot allowed all of us on bikes to park together and had plenty of lighting.

Of course, they had the standards...continental breakfast, free WiFi, a fridge and microwave in everyone. The microwave may not be as important but if you wanted to pick up a bottle of wine while you were out-and-about and then chill, the fridge is good...lol.

Guest laundry is good to have.

One amenity that I really like to have just in case is the guest laundry. I never like to pack heavy when on the bike. You never know, I may need a saddle bag to bring back some goodies. So having access to a washer and dryer is always a nice option. I always pack rain gear and such, but you never know something could happen and you need to wash a set of clothes. The Wine Country Inn had access to guest laundry!

Food and Drink

Rolling into Fredericksburg on Friday afternoon and after checking in to the hotel we made our way down to main street to grab a bite to eat.  There is so much to choose from for sure. Fredericksburg being founded by German’s you will always find a restaurant that will be serving a version of the native flavors.

Bejas Patio Bistro

Our 5 ½ hour ride had somehow turned into about 7 hours. Yeah, we took our time getting to Fredericksburg Friday, so we decided to start with Bejas Patio Bistro and a frozen Jack-n-Coke to cool off. Then following up with a really tasty late lunch.

I usually follow a strict low-carb life-style, but not this weekend. Hubby had grilled Mahi with Mango Salsa, grilled Asparagus, and sauteed Veggies and I had the sauteed Veggies with Coconut Shrimp and Chipotle Dipping Sauce. Really, really good place to eat!

Auslander's

For a taste of Germany...Auslander’s is a pretty good place to go. They have some of the traditions on their menu to choose from, main dishes and desserts. Plus the decor is pretty nostalgic.

I know this is usually a stop we always make when visiting Fredericksburg. While the hubby, due to Celiac Disease, can’t really enjoy the traditions anymore without paying a price for it. He did have the Grilled Chicken Breast, Red Cabbage, and sauteed Green Beans.  I did have a serving of German Meatballs with Red Wine Mushroom Gravy on Spaetzle.

Main Street Shopping

You can’t go to Fredericksburg without strolling down Main Street, where shopping is king. There is so much to choose from. A street full of boutiques, wine tasting rooms, galleries, antique shops and German imports. There is something for everyone.

You will always find me stopping by Texas Vineyards and Beyond for some of the best peach wine. Yeah, this time I packed 6 bottles in the tour pack because they couldn’t ship. All wrapped in bubble wrap...lol.

As you can tell from the middle picture, one bottle is already gone and the next one, front and center, is already chilling...lol.

I, also, visited a little sign shop. Had many, many Harley Davidson signs but also a few that I nearly bought to go in my office...lol.

No matter what you are looking for you are sure to find it on Main Street in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Wine Country

While we did not visit any of the wineries on this trip I could not leave Wine Country out of this post. With more than 50 wineries and tasting rooms located in Fredericksburg, you can’t visit Fredericksburg without seeing a vineyard or driving by a tasting room. I just don’t think it is possible.

The vineyards help make up part of the beautiful scenery of the hill country. Great for riding.

Wind Therapy

The hill country is just beautiful for riding. There is just so much to see, so many different directions to go...lol.

From the 150 mile Good ‘Ol Texas Loop , to the longer 250 mile Gruene-Fredericksburg-Bandera Loop, to the Twisted Sisters, there are so many routes to choose from.

While the three mentioned above are longer riders, there are shorter ones, too. Just depends on the amount of time you have to spend in the area.

I have ridden at least two of those so this time we chose to stay closer to Fredericksburg and go in a direction we haven’t been. Taking Hwy. 87 out of Fredericksburg to Mason. Stopping for some B-B-Q at Cooper’s and then heading on to Llano. Coming back around to Fredericksburg by Enchanted Rock.

Beautiful ride, a little over 100 miles, got us back into Fredericksburg for dinner and in time for the evening festivities.
